There are few things more distressing than getting stranded in your car which can a huge waste of time as well as being quite scary and not terribly safe. Whether you are standing on the side of a busy motorway or in the middle of nowhere on a dark night it's not ideal and particularly as it could in many cases have been avoided. Here we will look at some of the best things to keep in your car that can prevent you getting stranded or at least make it less distressing when you are.
Fuel Container
According to Denco Diesel, one of the most common reasons we get stuck in the middle of nowhere when we're driving is that we run out of fuel. Of course this can be avoided to a degree by making sure that we stop regularly and fill up the tank completely at every opportunity we get, but as a backup you should also ensure that you keep a fuel container with you so that you can fill it up at the nearest petrol station and bring it back to your car.
Cash
You should always have spare cash on you and this includes when you're driving around. This way you'll be able to use a pay phone and you'll also be able to pay for that fuel if you need it.
Spare Tyre
Right behind running out of fuel, getting a puncture is another of the most common reasons we get stuck in our cars. Again this is simple to solve - just make sure you drive around with a spare tyre in the back at all times so that you can replace it if you should need to. You can also do your tyres a favour by avoiding wheel spinning and avoiding gravel tracks when there's an alternate route.
Flashlight
If you're driving in the middle of nowhere at night and your car breaks down this can be rather scary and of course rather inconvenient as you won't be able to see what you're doing in order to address whatever the problem is with your car. Having a flashlight will help you to avoid accidents by being able to see where you're going, to signal for help and to see inside your bonnet if you have a fuel leak.
Jump Leads
If your car battery runs out of juice then fortunately there is an easy fix which is to get a jump from someone passing by. To do this though you will of course need jump leads, so rather than relying on someone else carrying them make sure that you always have them ready in your car.
The Car Manual
Some things that you can't work out for yourself will be easily solved if you look in the car manual.
Tools
Removing a tire isn't so easy if you don't have the correct tools and you'll need at least a jack and a wrench to have any hope of it. Make sure you have the full selection of tools with you at any time so that you can make repairs as necessary.
